The counseling approach we employ begins with looking at the current issues and tracing back to the hurts and wounds that are linked to those issues. We also explore with the client the activity within their life of God’s foundational laws of sowing and reaping; judging and forgiveness; honoring and dishonoring parents; as well as uncovering false beliefs and lies of the enemy. Decisions and choices that were made are identified with the aid of the Holy Spirit for the purpose of releasing them to our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.
This process helps to gain a clearer picture of ungodly responses firmly embedded and still activated, and structures that were erected that help to keep God and others out, while effectively shutting oneself off from the very thing needed and longed for – true, unbroken relationship with the Lord, with others, and often even oneself.
The intertwining of our wounded and broken human spirit with the mental and emotional distresses that we don’t know what to do with or refuse to address, creates within us a ‘dumping ground’ of toxicity that eventually evidences itself outwardly. By no means an exhaustive list, we understand that with some people it exhibits in mental health issues; with others, in abusive or addictive behaviors or sexual brokenness; and with still others it shows up in physical illness, weakness, frailty, and disease.
The good news is that Jesus Christ has redeemed us from the law of sin and death, and has made a way for us to receive the fullness of His life. As we work with clients who embrace addressing these areas of ‘their stuff’, it is not uncommon to witness change in their thinking (mind), their will, and their emotions. There are times we witness the very change in their countenance. And we have no doubt that the truth of the Word of God, when it is applied to the human spirit, brings forth newness of life. We rejoice when privileged to see the evidence and good fruit of the deep healing work and truth the Holy Spirit has brought to bear on ground held captive by the enemy of our souls. Part of that good fruit can be exhibited in healing and restored vitality and health as the Lord ordains. Other times, the fruit of His life within shows itself strong and solid in the midst of troubling or trying circumstances.
As we work cooperatively with Him, we esteem Him as Sovereign Lord. We do not engage in a legalistic approach outside the bounds of scripture for we know God’s grace and mercy triumphs over judgment. (James 2:13)
Obedience from the heart is different from a list of do’s and don’ts, including forgiving because we are “supposed to”. When the blockages or internal conflicts are resolved, the desire to live pleasing to God supernaturally flows and that brings spiritual, emotional, and physical health to us as we walk in the release He has given.
We believe that a large proportion of illness and disease is spiritually rooted. As a three-fold creation of spirit, soul and body there is no separating the correlation of cause and effect between the three realms of our being. We don’t believe we have fully understood the depths of meaning of Psalm 139:14 which states we are ‘fearfully and wonderfully made.’
We are grateful the Lord continues to unfold to His body more revelation and understanding of His Word, and gives wisdom with increased knowledge.
