"Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life."
Proverbs 4:23

Reflections of an Election Heart, Round Four

November 17, 2016 by Nancy Bentz 2 Comments

american-flag-795307_640A soldier, a scientist, and an RN walked into a bar. They each had a piece of the whole. So did the welder ordering a root beer and the secretary nursing a diet Pepsi.

Did you know that at any given time, that’s all any of us really have? A ‘piece of the whole’?

Of course you did and so do I, but sometimes we all can get so wrapped up around our favorite axle that the whole darn machine threatens to grind to a halt. If ‘The Donald’ and HRC actually hold enough clout to threaten ripping the fabric of families and generations, no wonder these (less than united) States of America are in big trouble.

But God. In Him I trust. For many things and many ones. My witness is that He has never failed yet.

Several months ago I came across a scripture that plunged its way deep into my heart. Here it is:

all-my-children-verse-20161117All your children will be taught by the LORD, and great will be their peace.
Isaiah 54:13 NIV 1

The handwritten sticky note is slipped beneath the clear protector on my desk, where I live and move and have a lot of my being day in and day out. Eight days post-election I had my being in gear getting a chipped tooth repaired, followed by a luncheon with a speaker pertinent to these times, and then on home to clean house midweek. It was a welcome reprieve. I quite recommend it for axle unwrapping.

Back to this anointed word of the Lord. It is etched in my memory, inscribed on my heart, and should all that fail, captured on my proverbial sticky note ‘brains’. In other words, that Word is not far from me.

Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck,
write them on the tablet of your heart.
Proverbs 3:3 NIV

To those who fear the wheels are falling off, family is not a dying breed. Just open your heart and your arms.

A soldier, a scientist, and an RN walked into a bar. They each had a peace. And great it was.

1 I encourage you to read the whole of Isaiah 54. Family. Anyone  remember the tent pegs?!

    Nancy,
I’m being interviewed on the radio about women’s perspective of the recent election next Tuesday. May I share what you have written?

Great peace have they that love Thy Law!

Donna, I am so pleased for you to have this opportunity! I LOVE that. And, thank you for asking to share what I’ve written. If you feel it share-worthy, yes of course. Bless you, my ‘begonia buddy’ ♥ ~ Nanc
